Veterans Memorial Park stands in honor of our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard past, present and future. Development of the park is a collaborative endeavor of the Veterans Memorial Park Association and the City of Rector Downtown Central, Inc. The VMP Association is a non-profit organization established for the purpose of establishing a memorial to the veterans of Rector and the surrounding area. It is chartered in the state of Arkansas and has obtained a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt status from the federal government. Federal Tax EID #27-0711171 ![]() When fully developed, the park will stretch alongside the new Rector Visitors Center and be a destination honoring the many individuals that have served and are currently serving in the armed forces of the United States. Construction is underway with a projected opening date in the fall of 2012. The BronzeThe centerpiece of the park will feature a life size American soldier cast in bronze and weighing approximately 600 pounds. Cast as a replica of a World War II soldier, the bronze will represent the five uniformed services of the U.S. armed forces- Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. FlagsFlags of each of the services will be positioned around the soldier. A POW/MIA flag, the Arkansas State flag and The Rector city flag will also be included. The American flag will preside over all the flags and will stand tall with appropriate lighting to ensure the Stars and Stripes are illuminated for all to enjoy both day and night. Heritage WalkwayAs you enter the park, you will begin your journey along Heritage Walk. This 15-foot wide walkway will extend the length of the park. On each side will be placed 4 in. x 8 in. commemorative, personalized engraved granite stones. The purpose is to recognize every individual, past, present and future, who has served in the uniform of our country and contributed to the preservation of our freedom. The walkway leads us to the ceremonial area, designed for various military and civic functions. Founders WallA Founders Wall will grace one end of Heritage Walk with special pavers sized and engraved to recognize those individuals and organizations that have made substantial contributions to ensure the development of the park. |
